Anita Marie Winkler, 82, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at her home in Florida.
She was born December 8, 1941 in East Hartford, Connecticut, daughter of the late Robert Harrison and Nancy Marie (Webb) Gay. After graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, she attended College of New Rochelle, where she obtained her master’s degree in education. Anita worked as a teacher at Marillac High School in Northbrook, Illinois until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling and was a talented artist.
Anita and Joseph John Winkler Sr. were united in marriage and together, they enjoyed playing and competing in duplicate bridge tournaments. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2012.
Anita will be missed by her three sons, Joseph John (Lauretta) Winkler Jr., William W. (Kris) Winkler, and Jason John (Christine) Winkler; grandchildren, Brian, Tom, Molly (Connor), Jadelyn, Heather, Kyle (Mary), Lane, Maximus, and Minna; great-grandchildren, Braden, Mark, Kinsley, Carter, Isiah, and Lily; and brothers, Robert (Denise) and Roger (Sophie) Gay.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Margaret J. Winkler; and brother, Royal (Margaret) Gay.
A funeral service to honor Anita’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Huehns Funeral Home at 11:00 am in Sturgeon Bay. She will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Saturday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Anita’s name to the American Cancer Society or Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
