Andrea "Andy" M. (DeFere) Bakalar

Andrea "Andy" M. Bakalar, 72 years, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home to her Lord and Savior Saturday evening, January 31, 2026, while at Bay View Senior Care in Sturgeon Bay.

She was born December 24, 1953 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Donald and Jeanette (Laubenstein) DeFere. Andy attended Sturgeon Bay High School. She was employed for over 27 years at Hatco as a sheet metal fabricator until her retirement.

Andy was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crafting, diamond painting and loved her animals, especially dogs and cats.

Survivors include her two children and their families, son, Jeremy (Laurie) of Green Bay [and their children, Brooke, and Brianne], Desiree (Jimmy) Knaapen of Sturgeon Bay [and their children, Mercedes, Azailya, and Keenan]; and their father, Robert "Bob" Bakalar of Sturgeon Bay; sister, Diane Jones of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews; her dear dog, Snickers; and cats, Mia and Oli.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Donald and Jeanette DeFere; brother, Dony DeFere; brothers-in-law, Duke Dusendschon, and Ed Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2026 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church (108 W. Maple St, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235) with Rev. Carl Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
