Melvin Charles Wolf

January 9, 1930 ~ October 26, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Melvin Charles Wolf, 87, of the Town of Forestville, was called Home to be with the Lord and was reunited with his wife, Nan Marie, on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Cardinal Ridge CBRF in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born January 9, 1930 in Palms, MI, the son of Albert August Ernest Wolf and Emma C. (Harnish) Wolf. Melvin graduated from Deckerville High School in Michigan in 1948. He was a third assistant engineer of steamships that transported ore on the Great Lakes from 1949 until 1958. While sailing, he met Nan Marie Whitford who was working in the shipyards in Sturgeon Bay. They were united in marriage on January 2, 1954 at Tanum Ev. Lutheran Church in Vignes in the Town of Clay Banks where Nan Marie was a lifetime member. Melvin and Nan Marie moved to Grand Blanc, MI where he worked for General Motors as a stationary fireman. He retired in 1992 to return to Nan’s family farm located in the Town of Forestville off Vignes Road. Melvin and Nan Marie were blessed with over 55 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2009.

Melvin was a longtime member of Tanum-Forest Ev. Lutheran Church. He had a strong faith and loved his church. Melvin liked tending to his vegetable garden and all of the other “greens” that would naturally spring up. He enjoyed reading and playing cards, especially cribbage, euchre, and pinochle. Melvin liked cats, and above all, he loved socializing with people.

He will be deeply missed by his two daughters and one son, Cheryl Wolf of Stockton, CA, Susan (Frederick) Bartling of White Bear Lake, MN, and David (Katherine) Wolf of Fenton, MI; three grandchildren, Ian and Andrew Bartling, and Stephanie (Vino) Raj; two great-grandchildren, Leanika and Sachvin Raj; and many dear friends from Tanum-Forest, Cardinal Ridge, and throughout the local community.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three siblings, Harold Nuske, Lorraine Wolf, and Eugene Wolf.

A private family committal will be held at Tanum Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Vignes where Melvin will be laid to rest beside his wife, Nan Marie.

His life will be honored with a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Tanum-Forest Ev. Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Mannoja officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given in Melvin’s name for Tanum-Forest Ev. Lutheran Church (6102 County Road OO, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).

“Our family would like extend a special thanks to the staffs from Cardinal Ridge CBRF and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and also to Pastor Peter Mannoja for his friendship and ministry shared with our dad.”
