Margaret Sawyer Obituary

Margaret Mae Sawyer, 88, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at her home, Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2018 with family at her side.

She was born November 9, 1929 in Baileys Harbor, the daughter of the late Carl and Elsie (Johnson) Peil. On October 21, 1950, Margaret was united in marriage to Douglas Edward Sawyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor. They were blessed with 38 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1988.

Margaret worked for Evergreen Nursery, Bonnie Brook Nursery, Curley’s Cleaners, and Knaapen’s Bakery. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, traveling, and camping with her husband and the Bayland Badgers Coachmans Club. Above all, Margaret loved her family; they meant the world to her.

Her love will live on in the hearts of her son and daughter, Carl (Carol) Sawyer of Sturgeon Bay and Shirley (Steve) Schulz of Janesville; daughter-in-law, Janet Sawyer of Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren, Tom and Jon (Krista) Sawyer, April (Dennis) LeGrave, and Brian (Amy) Schulz; nine great-grandchildren, Riley, Brandon, and Amber Sawyer, Madeline and Emily Schulz, Isiah, Grace, Rosanna, and Patrick LeGrave; three brothers, Carl (Jan) Peil, Irvin Peil, both of Townsend, WI, and Jerry (Julie) Peil of Baileys Harbor; three sisters, Helen Seiler of Sister Bay, Esther (Chet) Gauger of Sturgeon Bay, and Darlene Labombard of Townsend, WI.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Edward; and three brothers and two sisters, Donald, Ralph, and Harold Peil, Judy Peil, and Dolores Heling.

Her life will be honored with a funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Reeder Herrick officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery beside her husband, Douglas.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and at the church, Friday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.
