Margaret Honold Obituary

Margaret Lois Honold, 68, of the Town of Jacksonport, passed away Saturday morning, May 26, 2018 at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

She was born November 25, 1949 in Manitowoc, the daughter of George Edward Bertler and Catherine Ann (Wegner) Bertler. Margaret’s family moved to Green Bay while she was in grade school. She attended Green Bay East High School and graduated with the class of 1968. Margaret went on to study at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1973, majoring in Home Economics and minoring in Art.

She met Orville William Honold through mutual friends at the Slovan County Inn in Casco. They were united in marriage on September 28, 1990 in Green Bay and moved to Door County that same year. Margaret and Orville were blessed to share over 27 years of marriage.

She worked as an elementary school teacher’s aid in Green Bay, upon her graduation from college. Margaret eventually worked in a pickle factory in Shawano and later at a bean factory in Green Bay. She served with the Green Bay Police Department for two years, patrolling the city’s west side at night. While living in Door County, Margaret worked in housekeeping for the Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor and for the Ephraim Shores Resort.

She grew up attending Catholic churches in Manitowoc County and Brown County with her family. While living in Door County, Margaret attended church with Orville at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club in Green Bay, the Door County Association for Home and Community Education, and the Door County Art League.

Margaret had a part for art. She enjoyed knitting, but she loved to paint with oils, acrylics, and watercolors. Margaret’s favorite painting was “Christmas on the Farm.” She also had an appreciation for clothing design, which was evident in her wardrobe. Margaret liked going to the casinos.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Orville; three step-children, Phillip III (Marci) Faustini of the Town of Egg Harbor, Michelle Honold of Menomonie, and Brian Faustini of Green Bay; step-grandchildren; mother, Catherine Bertler of Sturgeon Bay; sister, Mary (Steven) Walrath of Shawano and Arkansas state; mother-in-law, Amanda Honold of Sturgeon Bay; four siblings-in-law, Kenneth Honold, Mitchell “Mitch” (Dawn) Honold, both of Baileys Harbor, Steve (Mary) Honold of Brussels, and Dorothy Trinkner of Sturgeon Bay; two aunts-in-law, Joyce Wegner of Mishicot and Eunice Rex of Baileys Harbor; special cousins, Doug Wegner of Two Rivers and Carlsville and John Cannon of Manitowoc, and lots of other cousins; nieces and nephews; and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father; and father-in-law, William Honold; and other relatives.

Her life will be honored with a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Peter Lindemann, of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Huehns Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
