Joyce Kiehnau Obituary

Joyce Ethal Kiehnau, 91, formerly of the Town of Jacksonport, was called Home to be with the Lord, Friday morning, April 6, 2018 at Cumming Nursing Center in Cumming, Georgia.

Jacksonport was home for her – from birth, through grade school, and even in her adult life as she raised her family. Joyce was born October 13, 1926, the daughter of William Sampson Weitermann and Selma Bertha (Hasenjager) Weitermann. She was united in marriage to Leonard “Mike” Kiehnau on April 21, 1945 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy. Together, they owned and operated their farm in the Town of Jacksonport until 1982. Joyce and Mike were blessed with nearly 64 years of marriage. He passed away January 29, 2009.

Joyce was a longtime member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and, eventually traveling.  After she and Mike retired, they traveled to Europe and many destinations in the United States and Canada. They enjoyed an Alaskan cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995.

Joyce will be missed by her three sons, James (Sandra) Kiehnau of Fort Shaw, Montana, Kenneth (Jeannette) Kiehnau of Luxemburg, and Michael (Susan) Kiehnau of Marietta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Jana, Robert, Jason, Andrew, Eric, and Caroline; and seven great-grandchildren, Mia, Hunter, Allie, Jaxson, Evangeline, George, and Luciana; her Kiehnau siblings-in-law, Donald “Butch” (Ruth) of Grafton, Mildred “Joey” (Wally) Radtke, Norman (Sharon), and Betty (William Jr.), all of Sturgeon Bay; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters and brother, LaVern (Wally) Bley, Dolores (Donald) Cornette, and Orland (Anna) Weitermann; and her Kiehnau siblings-in-law, Harold (Dolores), Fred “Fritz” (Doris), Carl (Margaret), William Jr., Reuben (Doris), (infant) Henry, Dorothy (Harold) Perkins, Olive (Verlin) Braley, and Florence “Dickie” Reagles; and other relatives.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Funeral services for Joyce will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Peter Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, beside her husband, Mike.

Memorials may be given in Joyce’s name for Zion Lutheran School.
