I have great memories of playing for Hoot many years ago on the "Door County Co-op" little league Team. Not only did he instill a great love of the game of baseball within me, but also taught me the "right way" to play the game, which was a testament to the kind of person that he was. I'm thankful for the time and direction I had by Hoot over my young baseball years. Condolences from the entire Bauer family!

So very sad to hear of Hoot's passing. I played for him on his little league Co-op team and 5th&6th grade parochial football teams. So many great memories. He was a leader, teacher, kind, firm, fair and always kept it fun. He played to win, but good sportsmanship was #1 with Hoot. He had an incredibly generous volunteer spirit and was totally dedicated to the kids. So many of us learned lessons in life and leadership from him. Hoot lives on in the thousands of lives he touched. A special man, and a life well-lived. RIP, Coach!

Hoot, you took one look at my glove when I joined legion (at 16) in 1975 and said "give me that". I guess I trusted you, it was the only one I had, When I came back for practice the next day it was like brand new. I had nothing to give you but "thanks". I'll never forget it. RIP.

I am so sorry to hear of Hoot's passing. My deepest condolences to the entire family and massive number of friends. I am also so thankful for the great memories. I played on his Coop little league team when I was a kid. Back then he taught me how to hold and throw a baseball. He taught me how to hit and stand at the plate. He made me a catcher because I was the hyper kid on the team. He took the time to know me and understand how to make me better through baseball. At the age of 45 I now truly understand the bigger picture of what he really taught me. I learned that patience and calm kindness trumps all in this world. Competition is fun but secondary. Having kids of my own now, I teach them what Hoot taught me. I am a coach now and try to teach as he taught. It is hard sometimes to teach with such a calm presence. It is amazing to thinks about how many lives Hoot has changed though coaching all those years. He sure changed Mine! He was a great coach and a greater man. Rest in peace HOOT.
