James Michael Hitt

     James Michael Hitt (Red / Redman) was born February 7, 1949 to the late John and Helny Jane Hitt. Red passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his family at 7:50 p.m., Thursday, May 11 2017, after a lifelong battle with muscular dystrophy. Every time life tried to knock him down, he got right back up and tried again.

     Red was born in Milwaukee and raised in Madison with a passion for cooking. The one job he would always talk about was cooking at Lombardino’s, an authentic Italian restaurant. When moving to Door County, he met his loving wife, Therese Hitt (Stich) while working at Casey’s Inn and they married in 1978. He immediately became father to Therese’s daughter, Shannon Stich, and had two of their own, Margaret (Eric) Leyendecker and Jamie Hitt. He loved his family so very much, making them pizzas and having cook-outs.

      He will be deeply missed by so many: his siblings, Cathy (Dennis) Caliva, Chuck (Judy) Hitt, George (Sheri) Hitt, Colleen (friend, Liam) Hitt, Martha (Karl) Buettner, Joe (Lynn) Hitt, Betsy (Al) Acker; his granddaughters, Skyler, Taylor, Theresa and grandson, Joey; countless nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.

     Greeting him now are his Mom and Dad; brother, Tom and sister, Mary Ellen.

     Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
