Esther A. Borkovetz, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Door County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility with family at her side.
She was born December 23, 1928 in Walhain, near Scarboro, in Kewaunee County, WI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (Freix) Dax. Following her graduation from high school, Esther worked in the office at Morley-Murphy Company in Green Bay until her marriage. On September 24, 1949, she married Robert F. Borkovetz at St. Amand Catholic Church in Walhain. Robert preceded Esther in death on May 9, 2007. They farmed together after their marriage. Esther was proud of their chicken operation, that Robert automated the collection of eggs, raising over 2,000 chickens which were supplied to neighboring restaurants and food outlets.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and raising eight children. Esther was always supportive of her husband’s endeavors and was a motivating force in his life, whether it be starting the construction business “Holiday Homes”, the Sunshine House, or Jellystone Campgrounds, her influence was woven into every aspect of their life. Her loving devotion to her family really showed as she raised eight children, especially her care and concern shown to her son, Jeff.
Esther was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay and the St. Ann’s Society. Her personality made her a great fit for the Red Hatters women’s club. Esther loved flower gardening, finishing furniture, sewing, quilting, painting, making stained glass, and made beautiful, ornate family Christmas heirloom ornaments that will be enjoyed for many generations to come.
Her will love will live on in the hearts of her eight children, Tom (Julie), Jerry (Sally), Sandy, Bob (Barb), Rick (Heidi), Ken (Janel), John (Laura), and Jeff Borkovetz; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister and brother, Myra Daul and Larry (Carolyn) Dax; and sister-in-law, Susan Dax.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant sister, Doris; two brothers, Donald (Verle) and Joseph Jr. Dax; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Meryle (John) Bilek and Robert Daul.
