Clifford Tice, Jr. Obituary

Clifford James Tice, Jr., 97, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2018 at Sturgeon Bay Health Services.

He was born May 16, 1921 in Redgranite, the son of Clifford Jay Tice, Sr. and Pearl Agnes (Skalitzky) Tice. Cliff graduated from Redgranite High School in 1938 and went on to study civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1942. He enlisted to serve his country with United States Navy in 1943, was commissioned as Ensign on July 26, and entered into active duty on August 8. Cliff served in WWII on Johnston Island in the south Pacific and was released from active duty on July 5, 1946. He was proud to be a “SeaBee”, which was the nickname of the U.S. Navy’s Construction Battalions (or CBs). Cliff was honorably discharged from the United States Naval Reserves on October 1, 1956 with the rank of Lieutenant.

He worked as a civil engineer in (power) plant engineering and construction. Cliff’s primary employment was with Northern States Power Company (now known as Xcel Energy), which was an electric power generation and distribution company. Cliff retired from NSP in 1984.

He was united in marriage in the Catholic Church to Joan Helen Rush on April 5, 1986 in Minneapolis, MN. They shared over 14 years of marriage. Joan passed away from complications of ALS on July 4, 2000.

Cliff enjoyed hunting, fishing, and other outdoor pursuits. He had a strong commitment to family and served as caregiver to his parents, wife, and others.

Cliff is survived by his brother, Gerald (Janice) Tice of Redmond, WA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Tice of Sturgeon Bay; five nephews and two nieces, Larry (Diane), Chuck (Jean), Tom (Nancy), Bob (Gail), and Jon (Laura) Tice, and Betty (Scott) Rockendorf, all of Sturgeon Bay; and Kim (James) Mastan of Redmond, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother; Robert Tice, Sr.; nephew and two nieces; and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Ron Colombo officiating. Clifford will be laid to rest beside his parents in Bayside Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Navy and V.F.W. Post #3088.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Huehns Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.

“Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Pine Crest Village, St. Vincent Hospital, and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care given to Cliff.”

Memorials may be given in his name for the ALS Association (the national non-profit association fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease).
