Clare "Katie" Malvetz Obituary

Clare “Katie” M. Malvetz, 85, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Monday morning, December 31, 2018 at Anna’s Healthcare CBRF.

She was born March 23, 1933 in Sturgeon Bay, the only child of Clarence and Mary (Tong) Malvetz. Katie graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1951. She was the oldest surviving of 29 Tong cousins. She attended UW-Whitewater and joined the family business, Malvetz Furniture and Gas Station, in 1952. Her parents had established the business the year Katie was born. She continued to own and operate it until 1973 when she retired and sold to the VanDenBogart family. She enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years, volunteering, and spending time with her dear family and friends.

Katie was a member of the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. She volunteered with the church, the Hospital Auxiliary, delivered Meals on Wheels, was active at the Senior Center, Door County Maritime Museum, and Crossroads at Big Creek.

She is survived by her 29 first cousins of the Tong Family.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Sturgeon Bay Methodist Church with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery next to her parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory for the Sturgeon Bay Methodist Church and the American Heart Association.

Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC are assisting the family with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Katie may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
