Beverly L. Stephenson-Peterson

December 17, 1943 ~ March 22, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old


     Beverly L. Stephenson-Peterson, 73, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, March 22, 2017 at Anna’s Healthcare with family at her side following a battle with cancer.

     She was born December 17, 1943, the daughter of the late Ralph and Lois (Curran) Stephenson. Bev graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1962 before attending NWTC Business Administration classes. On July 17, 1965, she married James M. Peterson at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church. He preceded her in death in 1978. They owned and operated the family business, Peterson Orchards. Bev was the Sevastopol Town Treasurer for many years and served as Corporation Council Secretary for 14 years. She worked for Pinkert Law Firm and the Door County YMCA.

     Bev was very active at her church where she   and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Job’s Daughters, Sweet Adeline’s, volunteered at Miss Door County Pageants, and helped organize the over 50-year class reunions for Sturgeon Bay High School graduates. 

     Survivors include her two children, Mike Peterson of Sturgeon Bay and Jill Peterson of Madison; four grandchildren, Dakota Castleberg, Danielle Castleberg, Christopher Peterson, Julie (Jason) Peterson Cruz; great-grandson and great-granddaughter, Mason Cruz and Victoria Salas-Castleberg; two sisters, identical twin sister, Barb (Harvey) Malzahn of Fish Creek, Pat (Jerry) Ploor of Fish Creek.

     Bev was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Jeffery Stephenson; and in-law’s, Marvin and Esther Peterson.   

     A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church. Friends may call at the church on May 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at noon.  Private committal and burial services were held at Bayside Cemetery on March 25, 2017.   

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory for Sturgeon Bay Moravian Youth Programs, Door County Y, DOOR CANcer Inc. (mail to Mike Peterson, 5825 West Jorns Ln., Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin 54235). 

    The family would like to thank Dr. Jaslowski, Richard and the staff at Green Bay Oncology, June and Ruth from Lakeland Care, and Anna’s Health Care for their compassionate care given to Bev through this past year. We also want to thank Bev’s classmates, Roger C., Carolyn B., the “Y” staff, Door CANcer, Sue Baldwin and so many friends and relatives who supported her throughout her battle with cancer.
