Betty Mae Anschutz

May 29, 1925 ~ April 20, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


     Betty Mae Aschutz, 91, of West Jacksonport. passed away Thursday morning, April 20, 2017 at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay with family at her side.

     She was born May 29, 1925 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of William “Jack” J. and Josephine (Johnson) Simon. Betty graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1943 and relocated to Chicago, IL to work as a nanny. The following year she returned to Sturgeon Bay and worked at Bay Bakery for a short time. Betty was united in marriage to Milton “Slim” August Anschutz on June 16, 1945. Betty went to work for Evangeline Milk Company for one year and then worked for Dorco Manufacturing for 16 years.

     She and Slim shared nearly 37 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1982.

     Betty was raised Catholic and later attended Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport and St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy after she was married. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty loved gardening, canning, cutting her own grass, and knitting caps and mittens for her grandkids. She received great joy from getting letters from her dear friends, Frank and Betty Staube.

     Betty will be missed by her by her daughter and three sons, Corrine Paschke of West Jacksonport, Milton (Betty) Anschutz of Algoma, Jerry (Kathy) Anschutz of Sevastopol, Edward (Lisa) Anschutz of Forestville; nine grandchildren, Edward, Holly, and Cassandra Anschutz, Jamie (Melodey) Lemons, Darin Paschke, Chris (Katey) Churches, Jessica Anschutz (Terry) Lipshetz, Brooke Anschutz, and Gina Anschutz (Tim) Jones; eleven great-grandchildren, Brylee Anschutz, Mason Younk, Ayden Anschutz, Morgan and Katlin Lemons, Brandon and Connor Churches, Claire and Alexis Lipshetz, and Mackinzie and Levi Jones.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Robert Paschke; one brother and four sisters, Russell Simon, Glenice (Hap) Patza, Velora (Joseph) Mager, MaDonna Simon, Harriet (Raymond) Batrich; and her beloved dog, Jake.

     No public service will be held.
