Judith Schmelzer Obituary

Judith A. Schmelzer, 87 years of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Cherry Cove CBRF.

Judy was born April 8, 1934 in Sturgeon Bay, daughter of the late Dairold and Dorothy (DeFaut) Wagner. Following her graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1952, she pursued a career in nursing.

Judy, or “Yo Mama” as she was known, was the life of any party. She could light up the room with her charismatic personality. Judy was the unofficial, official hostess of fun at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club along with her group of classy ladies.

Some of her favorite things included playing Scrabble, her cats, being with friends, slot machines, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and always looking her best.

Survivors include her daughter, Sigrid (Chuck) Weber of Sturgeon Bay; sister, Amy Wagner of Sturgeon Bay; two grandchildren, Sam (Liz) Weber of Traverse City, MI and Sadie Weber of São Paulo, Brazil.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her partner, Gerald Burchard; and Sigrid’s father, Joseph Schmelzer.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cherry Cove, Unity Hospice, and Samantha Keller of Advocates for Independent Living for their kindness and compassion.

Memorials may be made in her memory to Door County Medical Center Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship Program, PO Box 230, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.

Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC of Sturgeon Bay are assisting the family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Judy may be shared with her family at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
