Tom Kile

     Tom Kile, 75, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, died Monday, October 17, 2016 from complications of pancreatic cancer in the comfort of his home with family at his side.

     He was born December 19, 1940 in Nebraska, the son of the late Marvin Wendell Kile and Gertrude Ruby (Collipriest) Kile. Tom grew up in Creighton, NE, where he attended and graduated high school prior to going to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1958. He graduated from the Academy in 1962 and was commissioned an Ensign. For the next 26 years, Tom served in the Navy. He spent the first half of his naval career on various surface ships and the second half as an Engineering Duty Officer, involved in the construction, repair and overhaul of all types of naval ships. Tom served in the Vietnam War from 1967 until 1968. He was Commanding Officer of the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility on Guam and the Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, WI. In 1970, Tom married Lucy (Kuepper) Kile at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Middleton, WI. They were blessed with over 46 years of marriage together, two sons, and one grandson. In 1988, Tom retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain and settled with his family in Sturgeon Bay. After retirement he was involved in various local volunteer organizations including United Way of Door County, the Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay, Door County Birding, and the Door County Master Gardeners.

     He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Lucy, his two sons Michael and Christopher, his grandson Thomas Kile, and many friends. 

     Friends are invited to gather in celebration of Tom’s life at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating, and then culminating with military honors by the United States Navy and Amvets Post 51. Entombment will be made in St. Joseph Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Tom’s name to the Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay Charitable Trust, Unity Hospice, or a charity of your choosing.
