Scott Mitchel Holbrook

March 7, 1970 ~ October 12, 2016 (age 46) 46 Years Old

Scott Mitchel Holbrook, 46, of the Town of Nasewaupee, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born March 7, 1970 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Gary Charles Holbrook and Sandra Jean (Erickson) Holbrook. Scott graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1988. The day after his graduation party, he left for Key West, FL and found employment with a dive shop as a divemaster on a charter boat. Scott remained in Florida through December and enrolled at Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle, WA in January of the following year. He graduated the program with the highest honors and then returned home to Sturgeon Bay to work with his dad and brother, Tom, for their family Underwater Diving Services company. Scott worked in marine construction as a hardhat diver for many marine companies on the Great Lakes, initially as a topside dive technician and most recently as a deck equipment operator engineer. He was certified to the dive the nuclear reactors at the Kewaunee nuclear power plant. Scott was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139. For the last five years, he served as a first mate and chief engineer on the Fred A. Busse Fireboat in Sturgeon Bay.

In addition to commercial diving, Scott also enjoyed sport diving, especially in Florida and swimming with the manatees. He loved riding his motorcycle and even took his Harley out on the barges on the Great Lakes to different ports. Scott also loved to go ice fishing and enjoyed the camaraderie during it. Above all, he loved being with family and friends. He was always the person in his family to lead everyone in saying grace. Scott grew up in the Assemblies of God Church earlier in life and still kept his faith, even in recent years.

He had a personality that was bigger than life. Scott will be deeply missed by his parents, Gary and Sandy Holbrook of the Town of Nasewaupee; brother, Tom (fiancé, Regina “Gina” Sund) of the Town of Nasewaupee; nephews and niece, Logan and Hanna Holbrook and Coltan Sund; grandmother, Lucille Holbrook of Stevens Point; Alberta Erickson of the Town of Forestville; maternal aunts and uncles, Shirley (Ralph) Prokop of Sturgeon Bay, Patricia (Dan) Nowland of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, and Robert Erickson of Sturgeon Bay; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Willis “Bud” Holbrook; maternal grandparents, James and Bernadean (Sanborn) Erickson; and aunts and uncle, Judith Erickson, Louis “Bud” Holbrook, and Karen Holbrook Runger.

Scott’s life will be celebrated with a gathering of family and friends at Waterfront Mary’s at Beach Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
