Roger L. Rockwell

June 14, 1952 ~ May 27, 2016 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Roger L. Rockwell, 63, of Sturgeon Bay, died Friday, May 27, 2016.

He was born June 14, 1952, the youngest of three children to Leo and Doraine (Braley) Rockwell. After graduating from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1970, Roger worked at Milwaukee Shoe factory before apprenticing as an electrician in the ship yards of Sturgeon Bay. On November 6, 1971, he married Connie Phillips at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. They moved to Ishpeming, MI where Roger worked in the Taconite Plant where he would soon become shop Forman. They moved back to Sturgeon Bay where they would start raising their son’s Phillip and Christopher “Dogg.” Roger eventually worked at PBI Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay as an electrician for a number of years before buying his own business, Esquire Cleaners, and then eventually the building. This started Rockwell Enterprise, an entrepreneurship that would continue until his passing, a venture that would see him owning and operating vacation rentals in Door County, owning and operating hotels, bars restaurants. He also worked as a car salesman for Ford and eventually his own business, RR Used Cars.  Roger was a poet and played guitar. He wrote many songs, played music with friends, and sat in and was lead singer with various bands. His love of music would eventually lead to his opening of Rock’s Music store on Fourth Avenue in Sturgeon Bay and acquaint him with other national recording artists that led to lifelong friendships.

Roger loved the art of the deal, something he learned from his father, Leo. Roger also loved people, and if you needed a hand, or financial help, Roger lent it.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; two sons, Philip (Diane) Rockwell of Sturgeon Bay, Christopher (Alison) Rockwell of Madison; six grandchildren, Kyle, Andrew, Grace, Declan, Charlie, Sammy; brother, Joe (Linda) Rockwell of Sturgeon Bay; sister, Nancy (Dave) Rusch of Manitowoc; and many other dear family; and friends.
