Jane A. Bosman

October 19, 1916 ~ July 4, 2016 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Heaven received a special angel on July 4, 2016. Jane A. Bosman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away after a long and fulfilling life at the age of 99.

She was born Jane Amanda Marie Norby on October 19, 1916 in Clearbrook, MN to the late John and Amanda (Valley) Norby. At the age of 20, she moved to Sturgeon Bay to work at the Pines, a family owned business. There, Jane met her life love, Clifford Bosman. The two were married on August 16, 1939 and raised two children. Together, they began their life farming and then owned and operated Bosman’s Radiator Shop, Log Cabin Drive-In, and a Cherry Orchard. After 55 years of marriage, Jane lost her beloved husband. She was a resident of Sturgeon Bay for 57 years before relocating to Gulfport, MS to be closer to her family.

While in Sturgeon Bay, Jane was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church. Jane was dedicated to serving in the church as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Bay View Church Women and an avid supporter of the smorgasbord board dinners at the church. Jane was happy to call St. Matthew Lutheran Church her church during her 20 years of living in Gulfport.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, visiting friends, making quilts, and nurturing her flowers. Jane was also very active with her community. She served as a Girl Scout leader for over 30 years, was a Charter member of the Sons of Norway and donated handmade quilts for RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). Jane was well known in her hometown of Sturgeon Bay as the “Lefse Lady” due to her many years of making and selling pastries and from teaching so many the very art of Lefse making. She received the Hometown Hero award in 2006 following Hurricane Katerina for her volunteer service and also received the 2009 Presidential Volunteer Service Award. From the many years of enjoying square dancing with her husband Clifford, she earned a Bachelor of Square dancing award, which was an activity she still enjoyed long after losing her “best” dancing partner.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; and their son, Paul; along with two of her sisters; four brothers-in-law; and seven sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Bosman (Steven) Schneider of Gulfport, MS; son, John Harold (Jennifer) Bosman of Savannah, GA; brother, Quentin Norby of Green Bay, and sister, Allegra Jolly, Billings, MT.

Jane was blessed to have six grandchildren: Paul (Pam) Nault, Timothy Nault, Matthew (Denise) Nault, Stacey (Tim) Gerdman, Kevin (Erin) Bosman, and Jonathan (Cathy) Bosman. She had twelve great grandchildren: Paul’s children (Logan, Jerrid, and Jaden Nault), Matthew’s children (Eva Clair, Haynes, and Briggs Nault), Stacey’s children (Christopher, Rebecca, and Benjamin Gerdman), Kevin’s daughter (Rita Bosman), and Jonathan’s daughters (Madlyn and Zoe Bosman). Jane also had many nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 1280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, MS 39503 on Friday, July 8, 2016 for friends and family on the coast with Bro. Andre’ Thornton, of Kare’ in’ Home Hospice, officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 p.m.

Jane will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery, beside her husband, Clifford, immediately following the funeral.      Visitation will be held at Bay View Lutheran Church, Tuesday morning, July 19, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
