Helen Ann Frings, 88, of Jacksonport, died Friday, January 13, 2017, in De Pere.

She was born in Kansas City, MO, on December 3, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Irene (Campbell) Johnson. Following her graduation from Holy Angels (DSHA) High School in Milwaukee, Helen received a BA in Education from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana in 1950. On February 4, 1956, she married Atty. Donald Frings at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Wauwatosa. Don passed away in Jacksonport on January 30, 1999.

Helen devoted her life to children: her own son and daughter, the thousands she touched during her 35-year career as a 1st grade teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools, and the babies she helped as a leading member of the Christ Child Society.

Helen’s faith in Jesus Christ and life of prayer led her to teach religious education to adults and children, and to found the Christ Child Society of Door County. The non-denominational group supports new mothers with layettes, pre-natal care, and avoiding shaken baby syndrome. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jacksonport (now Stella Maris Parish-Jacksonport site) and the St. Michael’s Parish Altar Society. Helen also served on the Door County Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, and was a regular Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer.

During their later years, Don and Helen enjoyed traveling around the United States, visiting their children and friends, but most of all, just living together in their Jacksonport dream home and property. Her family roots in Door County go back to the mid 1800’s as the Campbell family established themselves in the Jacksonport area. Their family and many friends will never forget Helen’s intellect, smile and sharp wit.

She is survived by her two children, Patti (Peter) Warmenhoven of Green Bay, Jim Frings of Wausau; three grandchildren, Ann Marie (David Tilias) Warmenhoven, Amy Warmenhoven, Peter (Amanda) Warmenhoven; three great-grandchildren, Rose Helena Tilias, Peter F. Warmenhoven IV, Stella Warmenhoven; sister, Jeanne Desmond of South Bend, Indiana; and many dear nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Stella Maris Parish-Jacksonport site with Fr. John Girotti as celebrant. Helen will be laid to rest beside her husband, Don, in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Jacksonport.

Friends may call from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with a Catholic Daughters Rosary to be prayed at 5:15 p.m. and a parish wake service to follow the visitation at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church, Saturday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the angels at Rennes Health Center in De Pere, and Helen’s roommate, Delores, for their kindness extended to our mother during her time there.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Helen’s memory to the Christ Child Society of Door County or the Stella Maris Parish Endowment Fund.
