Eunice Spille McCormick

September 14, 1928 ~ February 12, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


     Eunice “Eunie” S. McCormick, 88, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at her home with family by her side.

     She was born September 14, 1928 in Jacksonport, the daughter of the late Henry and Martha (Anschutz) Spille. Eunie graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1946. That same year, she met John McCormick, and they were married May 21, 1949. After nearly 50 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on February 28, 1999. She worked for Prange’s for a few years before working at Dr. Gorectke’s dental office for 10 years in the 1970’s.

     Over the years, Eunie bowled in many women’s leagues and was a longtime member of the Sturgeon Bay Women’s Golf Association. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

     Eunie and John raised four wonderful children who survive: Laurie (Randy) Bergstrom of Omaha, NE, Jane (Steve) McCormick-Ripp of Neenah, John (Barbara) McCormick of Sun Lakes, AZ, Tim (Sheila) McCormick of Sturgeon Bay; 10 grandchildren, Tricia Robey, Polly (Bill) Soukup, Penny (Mike) Writt, Ben (Samantha) Bergstrom, Dr. Megan (Kieran Fennell) Bergstrom, Ashley (Jason) McCormick, Lauren (Amanda) Yurek, Lance and Leah McCormick, Rick Ripp; 14 great-grandchildren, Erin Robey, Bailey Soukup, Brynn, Blayze, and Blayre Writt, Olivia and James Bergstrom, Wesley and Jonas Fennell, Ellie and Owen McCormick, Mason Yurek, Steven and Christopher Ripp; brother, Hank (Marilyn) Spille of Springfield, VA; brother-in-law, Joe Urban of Neillsville, WI; and many dear nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Martha Spille; husband and best friend, John F. McCormick; two sisters, Lorraine (Erling) Landfried, Peg Urban; sister-in-law, Mary (Dick) Conlon; and brother-in-law, George (Grace) McCormick.

     "We would like to thank the Unity Hospice staff and caregivers for their kindness shown and compassion given to our mother throughout this journey."

     Memorials may be given in her memory to Unity Hospice or Door County Senior Center.

     At Eunie’s request, there will be no public service. Her family will gather at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved John.
