Welcome to the memorial page for

Ernst "Ernie" Brungraber

February 15, 2017

Ernst “Ernie” Karl Brungraber, 88, of Buffalo Grove, IL, formerly of Jacksonport, WI, was called Home to the Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

He was born September 19, 1928 in Jacksonport, the son of Karl and Marie (Dietrich) Brungraber. Ernie graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1946. He was initially employed with AT&T laying cable. Ernie eventually moved to Iowa, meeting his future wife, Beverly, in Webster City. He was drafted into the United States Army and served his county while stationed in Korea. Ernie was united in marriage to Beverly Trusty on April 21, 1951 at Camp Gordon in Augusta, GA. Three months later, he was shipped to Korea and then discharged in Fort Attterbury, IN. Ernie returned to AT&T in Rawlings, WY and worked in the radio division for 10 years. He transferred to Chicago, IL and retired as an engineering supervisor.

Ernie was raised in the WELS church; his faith was very important to him. He was a former member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport, WI and was most recently a member of New Life Lutheran Church in Lake Zurich, IL.

Ernie loved tinkering around the house and helping his children remodel or create new spaces within their home. He and Beverly loved to travel to China, Russia, and especially Germany where he had relatives. Ernie and Beverly were blessed with nearly 66 years of marriage, but knew almost immediately upon meeting that they would someday be married. He liked polka, waltz, and outlaw country music. Ernie will be remembered for being independent, a problem solver, who encouraged others to be adventurous and patient. His life was a true testament to doing all things for your family and loving them unconditionally.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; two sons, Alan (Carole) Brungraber of Prescott, AZ and Dale (Kelly) Brungraber of Wheeling, IL; five grandchildren, Heather Moyer, Jason (Kimberly) Moyer, Shawna (Wade) Kimm, Marissa (Ronald) Moravec, and Kaylynn Brungraber; five great-grandchildren, Avalyn, Ronny, Harper, Tyler, and Savannah; two sisters, Anna McNeil of Manitowoc, WI and Eleanor Grovogel of Green Bay, WI; many nieces and nephews; and cousins.

He was welcomed Home by his parents; daughter, Sue (Glenn) Moyer; and two brothers-in-law, Robert McNeil and Oliver Grovogel.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. (with a devotion to be held at 7:45 p.m.) and on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Ernie’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Huehns Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Sauer, of St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, officiating. He will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in the Town of Jacksonport.

Memorials may be given in Ernie’s memory for New Life Lutheran Church (910 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047).

Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Ernie may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
