Clara Jane (Hartel) Vogel

January 11, 1924 ~ June 30, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old


     Clara Jane Vogel, 93, of Sturgeon Bay passed away early Friday morning, June 30, 2017 at Door County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility.

     Clara was born on January 11, 1924 on the Simon Homestead in Sevastopol, to Lillian (Simon) and Harry Bartholomew Hartel.  She attended Saints Peter & Paul Grade School and Sevastopol High School. On August 16, 1941, she married Charles Robert Chase at Institute. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1966. Clara later married Clarence H. Vogel on March 11, 1967 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2000.

     She was a wife, mother, grandmother, housewife, waitress and worked on the farm with her husband, Clarence Vogel.  Clara enjoyed knitting, and embroidery work. Clara was member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church at the St. Ann Society.

     Survivors include her three sons, Robert (Jeanne) Chase, Vancouver, Washington, Francis (Gail) Chase of Sturgeon Bay, Richard (Peggy) Chase of Sturgeon Bay; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Hartel of Madison, Roger (Marvel) Hartel of Sturgeon Bay, James (Colleen) Hartel, Lincoln City, Oregon; Irene (Donn) McKnight of Arroyo Grande, California, Rosemarie (Robert) Smith of Winter Haven, Florida; sister-in-law, Mary Hartel of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews other family and dear friends.

     Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry and Lillian Hartel; daughter, Mary Jane Marcussen; three sisters, Doris (Milton) Duerst, Rose Hartel, Rita (Art) Mitchell; brothers, Andrew Hartel, Albert (June) Hartel.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017,  at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Fr. Carl Schmitt officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery.

     Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

     Memorials may be made in her memory for Unity Hospice.
